Parent Visas - Balance of Family Test

This test is the first major hurdle for lodging any parent visa.

Half of the applicant’s children must be settled Australian citizens or permanent residents
OR
More of the applicant’s children must be settled Australian citizens or permanent residents than being settled in any other single country.

The child sponsor needs to have lived lawfully in Australia usually for two years before the application is made.

The table below gives some examples of families with different numbers of children. It shows how the location of the children's permanent residence affects the balance of family test.
