State Sponsored Visa Options
This is an option that should not be overlooked by anyone considering migration to Australia.
Each state offers different occupation lists usually with more choice than the Skilled Occupation List.
Even if your occupation is on the skilled occupation list, applying for state sponsorship as well, can take much of the guess work out of your application. If you specify a state in your Expression of Interest and also make an application to that state, then if they approve your nomination, this will force Immigration to invite you to apply for a visa.
Furthermore by accessing State sponsorship there are some cases where you will have the opportunity gain access to an even broader list of occupations. You can do this by studying here in Australia, or by having close family ties to Australia (see Chain Migration for more information).
