Orientation Party

Andres with kangaroo
Andres (Spain) having a conversation with a local

Everybody who arrives in Australia to work vintage, will spend a few days at the beach with us in Adelaide before they travel to their winery placement.  This is because it is a condition of your visa that we provide you with a cultural introduction to life in Australia.  This gives us an excuse to have a three day party every week for the nine week ‘mad season’. Not only will you visit the world famous Barossa Valley, you will also get to try the beer, Bibber feeding a Kangaroo the food and life Aussie style.  We also cover the boring things like banking and taxes, so that your introduction to life in Australia is as stress free as possible.  The party, which is included in your fees, means that you will spend up to five days staying in a hostel by the beach in the tourist part of Adelaide – called Glenelg.  You will be there with many other ‘Bibbers’, all newly arrived in Australia. Almost all the Bibbers in the past have had such a great time that they don’t want o leave!

Objectives

The objectives of the Orientation party are two fold:
First, we wish to provide the participant with;

  • A positive introduction to Australia
  • Information that will make life easier
  • A general knowledge of the wine industry and its operation
  • A support network that they trust and are familiar with

Second, we wish to provide the winery with a worker;

  • That is ready for work
  • Has prepared the tax information
  • Has an open and operating bank account
  • Has a general knowledge of the Australian wine industry and its operation.

It is important to remember that the Orientation process is a service to both the participant and the winery.

Last but not least, we have been working with you for a few months to get your visa and it is great for us to finally meet you over a beer or a glass of wine.  In most cases, we feel that we know you already!
